Here it was our last day on the Island ,,,,,, I have to see a Lord Howe Wood Hen .

There are a number of Lord Howe Island Bird that I thought I would have seen by now ,,,,,, one of them being the endangered Lord Howe Wood Hen ,,,,,,,, The locals keep telling me that they are everywhere ,,,,,,, Monique saw one just outside the unit ....... I am told that there are heaps down the south of the Island near the Golf Course ..... So Monique spotted a Emerald Dove hiding in the undergrowth close to the room
We have Breakfast and decided to ride to check out the Cappella Lodge on the South Part of the Island and see some Hens hopefully .

It is a Nice Ride and another sunny day .

The Girls are enjoying the Last morning before our Flight home at 4pm .

This is as far as they want to go ,,, The Car parking area of the Lodge ,,, From a distance I see what looks like a Chicken cross the road ,,,,,,, But on closer observation nothing is found .

The Lodge has a Nice view in the restaurant ,,,,,, Good for a breakfast or a sunset Dinner I suppose .

The lodge also has a Golf Course connected to it .

Ros and Monique had Left for a ride back to the unit while I headed south to see Some Lord Howe Wood Hens .

This is the Gate south ,,,,,, There are several private residents down this way then the road ends and it is a walking track up Mount Gower .It is very Quiet down this way .

Still no Hens ,,,,, I was spreading bread scraps on the walk south ,,, to attract birds for my return walk .

Some nice early light .

Still mor beautiful scenery but no Birds at all .

This is the end .... I am walking no Further .

No Birds but Beautiful walk ,,,,,, A must do walk to the top of Mount Gower NEXT TIME .

After riding and walking south & speading bread for 1 hour I had not seen any Endangered Lord Howe Wood Hen . Now Here they were crossing the Road .

Why did the Chickens cross the road ,,,, Or Rather ,,, Why did the Lord Howe Wood Hens cross the road ? I dont know . But I am glad they did ,,,,,,,,

They were very tame and were greatful of the scraps of bread I had left .

I shot some video and took several stills ..

I had finally seen them ...... none to soon as we would be leaving in about 5 hours time ...

I rode back to tell the Ladies .

When I got back from my extended ride ,,,,,,, The Ladies were waiting to go for a last holiday swim at Nedds Beach

Everyone was happy that I had Finally seen the Hens ,,,,,,,, Monique has seen one right out front of the unit this morning and I had missed it ... Everybody Happy now .

Being a Sunday the Beach was really packed .....!!!!!!!

Did I say PACKED ,,,,,,, Yes PACKED ,,,

Packed with FISH that is ,,,,,, All these Whiting were nibbling at our feet ,,, waiting for a feed while the Islanders were at Sunday Church I suppose .

I call this shot FISH WALLPAPER

As we were leaving the water a Big fella swung around , popped his head out of the water and gave us a little Nod Goodbye ,,,,,, Goodbye Fish ,,,, see yah later on the dinner table .

Definitely a goodbye from The Nedds Beach Fish .

Well this was Really the Last Goodbye ,,,,,, a glimpse of the island past a passengers head is our last look from a great holiday

So all we had to do now was Return the Bikes and walk back to the unit to await our Airport pickup ,,,,,,,,,,,,As the Fluffy bird was still at the Bike place ,,,, I got another in focus shot to prove a point .

On the Walk home I found a rainforrest walk that I hadn't seen before ,,, It was very close to the unit and had some huge Bunya Pine trees in it ,,,,,,,, Large Seed pods had come crashing down and Bunya seed were scattered all around ,,,,,,, I will explore it more next visit .

I could just see past the person next to me for a Final look at the Island ,,,,, While I gave monique the Video camera to shoot out her window and Ros read a magazine ,,,,,,,, Back to Sydney and Work on Monday ,,,,, Such is Life .

This was the Morning of Day 6 and an early knock on the door confirmed that our long cancelled boat trip was on . But not until the Afternoon

We were glad ,,,, as we only had today left to do the boat trip and it had been cancelled due to wind and maybe to few bookings ,,,,, I think they like to combine the bookings onto the one day if they can .

Now that we knew that the Snokleing trip was in the afternoon we decided a good walk before lunch was on

We found the Sign to the Transit hill walk ,,, and on the far right side of this shot we found the hidden bottle shop ,,,,,, just the place to get some reasonably priced beer after the walk .
Everyone just leaves their bike helmets in their bike baskets .
The walk takes you up behing the Pinetrees Resort ,,,,,,, Lots of Green grass fields here ... Where are the cows ???
As you work your way up the hill there are nice views east .

And Finally you get to the Top ,,, It gets a little steep at times but enjoyable

AAAHHHH That why they call it Transit Hill ,,,,,, They Observed the Transit of Venus here in 1882 ,,,,

A Nice view south from up here ,,,

OPPPSsss Girls are on the move again ,,, can't stay in the one place to long ,,,, might get moss growing on you .....

On the way down from Transit Hill we turned off to check out Middle Beach on the Eastern Side

We Turned off at the Sign and headed east .

You work your way arond the steep cliffs and come to a viewing platform ,,,,,, By the Time I had taken a few shots the Ladies had left for a Return trip ...

It was another nice little beach that we left in a hurry ,,, a Bit to crowded .

I did manage to catch up to the ladies for a photo opertunity ,,,

On the walk back we found what we thought was the Island dairy ...... 2 Fressian cows ,,,,,,

The Island is never short of a good Root I am told by the locals ,,,,, This must be what they were talking about here .

Now to Grab a cold 6 pack of beer from the Hidden Bottle shop ,,, pop them in my Bike basket and back to the unit .
